Dr Emily is not only passionate about providing a high standard of veterinary care to her patients and their owners, she is also enthusiastic about educating clients and the general public about preventative health and management of issues our pets often face.

The Basic First Aid Workshop which she presented in early 2019 gained wonderful feedback and due to popular demand, she is now presenting a number of these throughout the year!

As if Emily isn’t busy enough, she is so passionate about spreading knowledge that she is also currently studying a Diploma in Education.

Emily also presents a Senior Pet Workshop during Foothills Senior Month and she is working on a number of other exciting workshops to bring to you in the near future so stay tuned!



Educational workshops are run on Saturday afternoons throughout the year. Please see below for specific dates.

Basic Pet First Aid Workshop

Spend the afternoon with Dr Emily Barrick for an interactive pet first aid learning experience.

Learn what to do when your pet is in trouble.

  • CPR
  • Bandaging
  • Toxicities
  • Snake bite care
  • Heat stroke
  • Chocolate toxicity calculator and much more!

There will be plenty of opportunities for hands on experiences and we will finish with a Q & A session.

Each attendee will receive a certificate of completion and will have the chance to purchase a discounted pet first aid kit and First Aid Book -A Guide to Common Pet Emergencies.

Senior Pet Workshop

June is Senior Pet Month at Foothills where we place an emphasis on the importance of care for our beloved senior companions.

Unfortunately, our pets, just like, eventually grow old. As they begin to reach their senior years, they become more susceptible to certain illnesses. As their owners, it is your job to help them ease their way through these years with as minimal pain and stress as possible. As your veterinarians, it is our job to provide you with the knowledge and assistance to do this.

Dr Emily Barrick brings you our Senior Pet Workshop, aimed at educating clients and their families on the signs and symptoms to look out for along with the care and assistance to provide to our ‘old friends’; allowing them to grow old with the grace and dignity they deserve.

Some of the issues to be covered includerenal disease
heart disease     diabetes    dental disease    cancer    arthritis

We will also discuss canine cognitive dysfunction and the behavioural changes that may begin to come about.

Advanced Pet First Aid Workshop

PLEASE NOTE: attendance to the Advanced First Aid Workshop is limited to those who have attended the Basic First Aid Workshop during 2019.

You asked… we delivered!

This course will only be for those who have attended one of the previous First Aid courses due to the content being covered.

Dr Emily will delve deeper into the first aid emergencies that our pets are faced with. There will again, be a hands on component for this workshop.
